What are the options to replace multiple missing teeth?
There are several options to replace many missing teeth and the expert team at The Dental Implant Centre in Aberdeen can talk through the processes and benefits with you at your consultation.
Dentures
Dentures can be used to replace either a single missing tooth, many missing teeth or they can be used to replace a complete set of teeth.
Dentures are made up of an acrylic plate which is worn over your gums and contain prosthetic teeth. They are removable and you take them out to clean them and rest your gums at night.
The benefit of dentures is that they look like normal teeth and are quick and easy to fit. The disadvantage of dentures is that you can’t wear them overnight and they often become uncomfortable after long periods of time.
Dental Bridges
Dental bridges can be used to replace many missing teeth when you have healthy teeth that are adjacent to the gaps in your mouth.
The prosthetic tooth is used to “bridge” the gap and is anchored in place by the teeth on either side.
Like dentures, dental bridges look and function like usual teeth. Unlike dentures they do not need to be removed for cleaning. The disadvantage of dental bridges is that they can only be used if you have healthy teeth. They are not a good option if you are missing all your teeth.
Dental Implants
Dental implants give a more permanent solution. They do not need to be removed for cleaning and they do not need the support of other healthy teeth. Dental implants look and function just like your own natural teeth, meaning you can smile, eat, chew and talk again with confidence.
The dental implant acts as the new tooth root which is gently inserted into your gum and in time will fuse with your jawbone. An abutment connects the dental implant to your new bespoke tooth which is called the crown.
As the dental implant fuses with your jawbone, this helps preserve the bone, giving more structure to your face and reducing the sunken look that you get with missing teeth. It also protects the health of any other teeth that you have.

How I-Smile Can Help with Multiple Missing Teeth
I-Smile was created by a leading dental implantologist at The Dental Implant Centre. The aim was to reduce the amount of dental appointment times needed to fit dental implants for patients from Elgin, Dundee and throughout Scotland.
With i-Smile, dental implants are completed in a maximum of 7 appointments and surgical time takes a maximum of 2 hours.
At The Dental Implant Centre Scotland, we know that every patient is unique and so is every treatment plan. As a guide, there are several i-Smile options for those who have many missing teeth:
The i-Smile Same Day
This option is perfect for those patients who have no teeth at all, have many missing teeth or have many decayed or loose teeth. The i-Smile Same Day means you can have a new set of teeth to replace multiple missing teeth on the same day.
6 dental implants are fitted on the same day to either your upper or lower jaw. A temporary bridge is then fitted which contains your new prosthetic teeth.
A final bridge containing your custom-made set of prosthetic teeth is fitted at a later appointment once your gums have healed.
The i-Smile Graft
This option is similar to the i-Smile Same Day but includes an extra step in the process that involves grafting bone from your sinus area to support the dental implants. This process is needed if we discover during your consultation that you do not have sufficient bone or that your jawbone is too weak to support dental implants. Once your bone graft is finalised, you follow the same steps as the i-Smile Same Day.
The i-Smile Bespoke
This option is an all-inclusive service that incorporates up to 10 dental implants per jaw along with high-end ceramic crown work. During this process, your dental implants are fitted at your second appointment, and you will be given a temporary set of teeth. Your custom-made permanent set of teeth are fitted at a later appointment once your gums have healed.
